MAKE YOUR HOME SING MONDAY

LinkI am linking up with my friend Mom's The Word to participate in her new Monday meme, "Making Your Home Sing." It's a day where we share what we are doing to bless our families in our home!! If you would like to be blessed, encouraged, or would even like to share how you are making your home sing, click here!

Being at home with my kids practically 24/7, you would think it is easy to cook three square meals a day. Being that I homeschool them, sometimes it is easier to just heat up something frozen when they are hungry
(pizza, chimichanga, nuggets). You get the picture.

I'm blessed that my kids are healthy and strong. I don't want to ever take that for granted, and I don't want them to either. I should take more time to research healthier options instead of doing what's convenient. So, I'm going to bless my family by cooking healthier meals. I have no excuse why I shouldn't. This is the responsibility I took on as a mom and a wife, and my desire should always be what is best for them, and not what is easiest for me.
I have to take TIME to plan out what I'm making in advance so this way I can be prepared and not stressing about what I'm going to fix for them at the last minute.

I think Menu Plan Monday would be perfect for you. I know that it has really kept me on track:-)

Yes, menu planning is an excellent way to do this. It is tough in the beginning, but it does get easier! Have fun!

Alicia,

This just touches my heart when I hear this! The proverbs talk about the wise woman building up her home and I am so touched by what 'moms' is doing to help bring about awareness to that.

Our families are such a great responsibility and looking out for them and their well being is an awesome task. I look up to you for this, my friend. Well done!

Big big hugs to you!

We have been trying to cook healthier for awhile now. Mostly we stay on track but occasionally we fall off the wagon...so to speak. My only problem is that I have one child (my 1o year old) who doesn't like much of anything that I cook that is healthy. So please share with us when you find something that your kids really like that his healthy!!

Oh and about the pay it forward....just go ahead and skip me and give it to the next person this time. It sounded fun but I have so much going on this week I really rather just skip it this time! Thanks though!!!!

I agree with Susie... try out Menu Plan Monday. I do that on my recipe blog every Monday and somehow it has made my life SO MUCH EASIER. (I also have lots of great and easy healthy recipes. We only cook natural foods in our home)

It will make your home sing when you have great meals all together. My kids love it and love to help prepare it too.

Happy Monday!

I also like the MPM posts for meal ideas. I don't usually get my posts up in time so don't bother doing it. However, the ideas are great.

I have found some great healthy (and yummy) lentil and rice recipes. I made lentil and brown rice tacos and everyone loved them, which surprised me as there no meat in it.

You are so right, it's the time we need to give up so that we can plan out what to feed them. However, once you have a plan you don't have to think about it all week!

Great post. Thanks for joining us today!

I understand just what you are talking about. Its hard to balance everything, but our kids health is so important. You are a good mom that is doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

It sure is hard to make time for stuff like that. At my women's bible study the speaker just handed out recipes... the neat thing is that they all have 6 ingredients or less. I bet you could do a search for it! The meals are healthy and FAST!!

That's right! You'll feel better and save money and enjoy cooking when there's more of a plan. I know it's hard to get started. I have posted some free resources on my blog this week.

Your new page looks so pretty and bright. Those children of yours are so delicious : ). Good luck with meal planning. I got a premade meatloaf and pre made mashed potatoes tonight for supper. I am the worst!

It's so hard to not take the easy way out. I think the key is to not have the stuff in the freezer. Then you have no choice but to make something healthier...even if it's just peanut butter and jelly.
A great idea to bless your family!

I enjoyed this post.

I find it hard to make every single meal as well, so we have something "easy" most days for lunch too. But I agree, it's nice to take the time to make good, healthy, home-made meals as well.

One step at a time is how I'm handling it. First I decided to make my own bread and change nothing else. Then I decided to eliminate HFCS from our diets, then I moved on to processed foods...one step at a time. YOu can do it and you'll never regret it!

Oh how I can relate. There are some weeks where I do great and cook wholesome meals. Other weeks, it's takeout, fast food or frozen goodies.
What a great idea! You can do it!

That's a great resolution! I love to plan peals a month at a time (it's not as bad as it sounds, trust me), which takes the guess work out. :)

Your post really hit home with me!! I always expected to make these great from-scratch meals when I became a SAHM. Alias, that is not the case. It is all too often that it is 5 o'clock and I am just beginning to consider what I am going to serve for supper. I, too, am going to start taking the time to plan our meals so that we can eat healthier. Thanks for the encouragement!

Meal planning is great! We do it at our house. Dirk and I usually make our menu and then our gorcery list on Saturday morning. It's great! We succeed most of the time sticking by it...It has also saved us lots of money! In other words, it's kept us from making quick stops at the store during the week. Girl, those little quick trips can ADD up quickly!

Let me know if you need any help from me. Email me if you need to.

Good luck!
