LET'S GET PHYSICAL!

Do you remember that Olivia Newton-John song from the 80's?

This week, my kids and I decided to get more physical!

That means we have been going to the Sports Center by our house and walking around the track!

It feels so good to do "something," because something is better than NOTHING! Especially with summer coming up, and soccer to follow, I want them to be in decent shape.

Not only them, but for me too. I need it, my heart needs it, and I need to keep up with the kids!

What are your kids doing this summer to stay physical?

That's so good for your whole family and how you're doing this together.

I sold my exercise equipment along with my furniture when we moved from our house. I can't believe how not having a treadmill handy makes exercising hard especially as the temps have risen above 100 in Phoenix already.

I'm going to join a gym that is nearby so I will have no excuse. I'm amazed at how fast the weight creeps on without exercise.

Good for you.

Yes, I need to do more of that. We like to walk/jog with our dog. However, I am not so sure that Sima (our black lab) likes it! hahah

swim, swim, swim, and hmmm more swimming. Abby's physical therapist things that would be the best for her so now we have a great excuse!!

Good idea!!!!! Lucas is doing baseball all summer and they constantly ride their bikes in the backyard acting like race car drivers :)

Of course allie and caleb can't sit still so they're always active!!!

Now we won't talk about me. LOL

That's GREAT Alicia! My two little ones stay physical all on their own running from one end of the house to the other, but I've actually starting trying to make it a point to get in at least a half hour of exercise a day. I'm doing water aerobics twice a week, walking a few times a week, and on the days when it's "uggy" outside I turn on our Wii and do step aerobics, or go jogging around the island. (I ♥ technology!)

now i totally have that song in my head. i loved her in grease. :0) staying physical is pretty easy for my kids right now being little. but i'm sure as we get older we'll have to think of something. but amelya's biggest thing now is soccer around the yard.

Are you wearing your Olivia Newton John leg warmers and head band when you go to the sports center???? (Sorry, I just couldn't resist....)

You know I'm a runner, so I'm fine with keeping up with The Midge on land. However, she is a fish in the water, so there's no keeping up with her in the pool. I don't even try anymore.

That's a great idea, Alicia. My daughter works out at home with videos and my son lifts weights and works outside doing landscaping all day. I do videos at home too!

That's a great idea! We're hoping to join the YMCA - we live right across the street from a really nice one that gives out scholarships! :)

that's so awesome! way to go, Kids, for helping mom out! well, Lucy (our fur-baby) does the same thing every morning and every night--she walks mommy! I used to walk her, but since I'm so huge and tired all the time, she pulls me!

Good for you for trying to get more physical! I'm waiting for the exhaustion to pass, so for now we're keeping it kinda low key. We are going to get a membership at the zoo and hope to go at least once a week and walk the entire place. Also, walks to the park, and playing outdoors in the yard. And they come with me to the gym and play in the daycare area while I work out.

Summer always passes too fast, so it's good to get out and enjoy it while it lasts! :)

Great idea! We hunt turtles, go on walks and ride bike all summer!

I used to go jogging with my family around a track nearby my house and then we stopped because there were too many people and it got harder to run especially when you have little kids with you. My son will be doing basketball while my daughters will be doing swimming and gymnastics.

Oh thanks. Now I have that song stuck in my head! LOL

Great idea. I need to be moving more. I purchased the Zumba dance DVDs. You should have seen me. Ha. I would probably get a million hits on youtube if I dared film myself. lol

Bless you girl!

So awesome! I don't want my kids to lounge around all day watching TV either. We try to go play outside or in the park and have some FUN!

That´s the way!! Great motivation!
I wonder if Jillian Michael´s series Losing It will have this affect all over America. It is so necessary. WE need to stay active! Physical as you say! woo hoo! this is a topic very dear to my heart.

As you know I have been on a fitness journey for a year and a half now. Have lost almost 40 pounds and can keep up with my boys now. They do Karate 3 times a week, do weight lifting with their Daddy once a week, swimming with me and play soccer every chance they get in the plaza with their friends. ;) They are super active!

This summer they have camp and then it´s off to the States where we hope to keep them active. That will be the challenge for us. Staying active while on the road. We hope to get a membership at the YMCA to hit all the YMCA´s from Florida to Cali! ;) This helped us so much on our last furlough.

I say all this to encourage you all to keep on and look at the long term. Physical for Life! Movement is vitality! It´s not about sitting around it´s about quality of life.

Great Job!! ;)

Staying Physical,
Dani Joy
PS... just to motivate would you like to be invited to my private Fitness blog??? Would love to have ya post every so often.

Good for you! My kids are really active all the time (biking, swimming, playing soccer or baseball in the yard, etc) and I get worn out just chasing them. But i know that's not enough exercise. We usually take a family walk after dinner and it's about a mile or so. We haven't been consistent lately and need to get back into our routine. Especially with gaining the pregnancy weight and being older this time. I worry more about what shape I'll be in afterwards.
Thanks for the inspiration :)
