FRIDAY PHOTO FLASHBACK

I started "Friday Photo Flashback" because I have so many pictures from my PRE-digital camera days. I thought it would be fun to scan them and share them here with you. I'm having so much fun doing this, that I would love for you to join me, too! So dig out the photo albums and put your scanner to good use! Don't forget to sign in to MckLinky so we can all visit and comment on each others blogs!

Do you ever look at a picture of yourself when you were little and wonder, "What were my parents thinking?"

Not to sound like I'm bragging about myself, but I have to admit that I was a pretty cute kid! I had long hair and cute bangs.

Makes me wonder why my mom didn't just let things be as it were/was?

Did I really need that haircut?

A simple trim could not suffice?

I was around 8 or 9 years old in this picture, and if I didn't know any better, I would think this was a little boy (or my son Isaiah)!

Mom...please...tell me why???

  1. Okay, I admit, it does fall into line with the one of me when my mom permed my hair, INCLUDING bangs and I had glasses that took up most of my face.

  4. I think it is a great picture. That hair style was probably the style back then.

  5. Oh I had one of these instances also. Only I did it because my friends did it. Wouldn't you just love to have that Winnie the Pooh about now! And btw, I think it's a darling picture!

  10. my mom permed my hair and had it cut into a mullet, i think you got off easy!

  11. Oh my goodness! When I was in fifth grade my mom cut all my hair off too. I wore a hat to school but the teacher mad made take it off.

  12. For what it's worth, you still looked cute in that photo! :)

  13. When I was growing up in Thailand, my mom never allowed me to wear long hair. Therefore, I always looked like a tomboy. Now I just love having long hair :).

You look cute either way (long or short hair).

  14. I think you look cute! My mom did the same thing to me. It was the last time my hair was cut above my shoulders!

  15. OH Alica, I totally relate! I have "little boy" pictures of myself too. I was 10. I think I was the one who wanted my hair cut but really! Maybe that look was in or something. LOL

    You were adorable, though!

  16. Awww, you are too cute. Yeah, my Mom cut off my hair that I was SITTING ON and made me look like a boy when I was in 3rd grade. I still hate short hair to this day.

  17. You can really tell how much your kids look like you. Whew! Little Mini Alicia's

  18. Oh yeah, girl, I had that haircut too!! Plus my bang were always uneven - what's up with that?? But look how happy you are with your Pooh Bear!!! Have a good weekend ~ ♥

  19. Haircut and all you still look adorable, but "wow" can you ever tell you are your kids momma!

    Have a beautiful weekend!

  20. Oh my goodness my mom did the same thing! I had long curly hair and one day my mom decided to cut it all off. In her defense she's always had short hair and been very tom boyish and I think she just didn't know what to do with it long or how to style it. My step mom picked me up from daycare one day and couldn't find me because my hair had been cut..then when they showed me to her she cried and asked "what in the world do they do to her beautiful hair?"

  21. I'm totally going to side with you on this one. What WERE they thinking? ;) Good for you that you were still so darn cute anyway!

  22. You look cute on that haircut!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Cool hairstyle!!!

  24. You look cute. And I like your Winnie the Pooh doll. My Mom made me cut my hair when I was in 2nd grade, and people did think I was a boy - lol.

  25. I think the same thing everytime I look at old pictures! I got a similar haircut around that age too...except I got a perm too!! Talk about a bad hair YEAR! LOL!

  26. YOU, and adorable. But I completely understand. My parents had me in a bowl cut until I was nearly 12.

Everyone though my brother...had a little brother.

  27. Actually I think you look more like Miranda when she was little or your nephews ?
My aunt did the same to me one weekend and never had long hair again !

  28. My mom was forever cutting mine and my sister's hair. I remember crying one time because I wanted it left long. :)

  29. My mom scared me too!!! GOSH what were they thinking?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  30. my mom gave me some bad cuts back in the days but we didn't have a choice, right.... btw, python is illegal in CA for sale but i imagine if you already have it then it should be okay.

  31. Reading the above coments, I feel so much better. I too had a cut like this back in the day.

Thanks for letting me join in the fun today!

  32. When I was young I had a cut similar to this once. I think you were a cutie!

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL...you are so funny!

My mom did the same thing to me. I had super long hair and then wham...the same cut as your picture. It must have been the trend :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. You're still very cute, Alicia, and in defense of your mother's decision, I feel I must ask -
Did you fuss when your long hair was brushed?
That's how my little girl ended up with a do almost identical to yours!

Thank you so much for all the memories you bring back each week with this meme.

  35. LOL! My problem was I ASKED for the haircut because I wanted to look like Dorothy Hamill. :-( I didn't look that way when it was all said and done. Now, let's talk about the time my mom permed my bangs and they looked like a kielbasa... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think many of us of a certain age all have that "boy haircut" time. Like Jennifer, I wanted a Dorothy Hamill. It was horrible on me (and it wasn't a Dorothy Hamill)...I think I'm traumatized still!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I know...I am still bitter about my mom cutting off my curls. "I am known for my curls!" I screamed:-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Too funny!

My mother gave me that hideous Dorothy Hamill haircut....she might as well put a bowl on my head and snipped around the rim. YIKES!

    You still were adorable....those eyes!

    ReplyDelete
  39. LOL - oh my! You were STILL a cute kiddo though. I'm not sure what it was with the Mom's back then, all four of the girls in my family went through a "boy cut" phase... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  40. My mom did the same mean thing to me!

    ReplyDelete
  41. You are still a cute little girl :) But yes I would ask my mom why????????? :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. haha! I have many photos of when I was younger and that I look back at and think "What was "I" thinking!"

...but then I realize that those photos were during the 1980's! For goodness sakes! What was ANY one thinking in the 80's! haha

WHO let those hair and clothes designers loose back then?

    Blessings & aloha!

(and thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment :o)

  44. Dear Alicia,

You were a darling little girl.
I meant to come here sooner to reply to your comments on my “Where Is Autumn?” and “Stormy Weather on the Horizon?” I thought it was interesting how you said on one that you too were having very hot weather, and on the other that it was cooling down for you, too. Funny weather this year.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I always enjoy seeing you there!

    ♥Hope

  45. LOL.. one time my Mom let my Aunt cut all my hair off. It was almost to my behind and she cut it off above my shoulders. It was horrible!!!
