I know what you're thinking...
Now, before you judge...
Please know...it's not as bad as it looks.
Really.
I'm just keepin' it real.
We have good days, and then we have bad ones, too.
They go hand in hand.
This day was a little bit of both.
I learned my lesson, quick.
Let the cake COMPLETELY cool off before frosting.
And it's not like I don't know this already.
This is what I get for being impatient.
My friends, here is my Red Velvet Cake. I know, you're thinking, "What in the world is THAT?" I actually took the picture before I smoothed the sides out, really, and my oldest daughter did the cute decorations on top. If I wasn't so anxious to get it over with, the outside would look halfway decent.
But, don't let the outside fool you. My kids LOVED it, and ate the cake in one day. Yes, I know, savages! Ha! Everything was made from scratch, including the icing. I don't think I can ever go back to pre-packaged frosting again.
Here's the recipe I used from one of my cookbooks.

Oooooooooooohhhhhh, mmmmmmm! Now THAT looks pretty dangerous! I'd have eaten that thing in a day myself! LOL!
oh... it looks so y-u-m-m-y...
LOLOLOL...this makes me think of Kim (homesteaders heart),...she is SO impatient, and never likes to let things cool, LOL.
Those type of cakes are always the best tasting...not sure if it's the ingredients or the fun and love that go into them! :)
Have a beautiful day my friend.
It all tastes the same going down, mama!!!!!!! YUMMY!!!!!!!!
Yum! That looks so good...you should definitely share the recipe! I am impatient about frosting cakes too...and I have had a few that looked just like that:)
Cakes are so hard to frost! I still have yet to frost a perfect one. Yours looks a lot better than mine ever do! YUM!
LOL!
I for one think it looks very YUMMY!!!
You can't go wrong with cake ;p
Yummy that looks so good!
LOL! I'm no good at baking because I'm too impatient. Looks yummy!

It must have been delicious:-)
LOL! The same thing happened to me when I put pumpkin frosting on my cupcakes before they cooled! Presentation aside, they were a hit... and that's what really counts, right? ;p
That looks SO GOOD! I love icing made from scratch. It is so much better than pre-made icing.
Looks very yummy! I tried to make some red velvet cakeballs dipped in almond bark. They did not look very pretty but sure did taste yummy!
YUM!!! It looks like it was so moist on the inside! Since I've started making buttercream frosting from scratch I'll never go back to the packaged icings either!!
Yummy.
I love your blog. The cake looks great. It makes me so hungry. Doylene

Oh my goodness that looks so yummy!!
I have done that before...but that cake sure looks delish! Everything from scratch. Good job!
I don't even see a problem! It looks just like mine do, except better!
It looks good, Alicia! Since making most of my cakes from scratch now, it's hard to go back to the boxed kind or the pre-made frosting. And the fact that your troop ate it all says it all.
YUM! I am impatient like that too. It still looks great!
Oh yum!! I looove red velvet cake :)
Wow it looks fabulous to me!!! Great job girl!
OH yummm!!!! I LOVE red velvet cake too!
Wow! gonein one day? Well, they say..." the proof is in the pudding!" um...or should I say "in the cake?"
