My oldest daughter, Miranda, is getting braces!
Her teeth aren't that bad, just a little crooked in a couple of spots.
But, still. She's aware!
With her being a tween (13 in May), and more conscious of her looks, she had brought it up to us a couple of times about getting braces. Our dentist told us to wait, but I didn't understand why, so I just called my friend who works for an Orthodontist, and she made an appointment for her to come in for a consultation.
They said her "case" is an easy, straight forward one since her teeth aren't too bad. She had to have a mold done (gag), and I had to take her to another dental office to get these certain pictures taken of her teeth and profile.
I want to document her braces story here, so this way, I will always remember! LOL, I told her that I wouldn't take any funky pictures of her.
Her second appointment, which was a few days ago, was to put the spacers in the back of her teeth. Not painful at all, and we were only there for twenty minutes. Next appointment are for the bands. FUN!
Good news is that she will only need to wear the braces for maybe a year and a half to two years. Not long at all!
With a name like this, I totally feel comfortable with the Ortho! Her teeth aren't that bad, just a little crooked in a couple of spots.

She's checking out the pictures that were taken of her teeth. She would die if I put those on here! LOL!!
These are bad pictures because I forgot my camera at home. These are all taken with my Blackberry. Here is a mold of her top teeth (it's upside down of course).
And, here is the bottom!

Way cool.
The mold brings back so many memories...lol. I had braces from 2nd-10th grade. It really stunk. Hopefully she will only need them for a little bit.
Hehehe, though I didn't need braces, I remember wanting them badly because my best friend had them. I put aluminium foil over my teeth and pretended that I was wearing braces as well!
wow..that's cool..I've always wondered about that stuff.
That is so cool about the name :) I don't understand why your dentist ased you to wait.
Your Miranda is just beautiful.
I think I'd love braces for my bottom teeth too.
Here's to her story :)
My daughter is twelve and will will need a lot of work doing on her teeth. She has a small jaw and overcrowding. She has baby teeth that are still intact even though her adult ones are through and even though I almost begged the dentist the last time she was there to take the baby teeth out he will not. He told me over a year ago now that it wouldn't be long and they would be out and yet they are still there.
All her teeth are coming through in the wrong places as a result and I think that she is going to be wearing braces for a very long time!
She'll totally pull them off!
Yes we do have to document every small moment of our kids life, huh? She already has such a pretty smile...can it get any prettier?
I remember those molds from my own teeth! I can't believe how pricey they are now! I want them and it's killer expensive!
Never had braces but I'll be she will really appreciate the outcome.
Poor kid! And Poor Mom and Dad! That is an expensive venture!
Ugh... my girl is going to need them too! Her mouth is messed up from her thumbsucking amongst other reasons! I had them as a teen for years!! NO fun!! Good luck to her!!
Yay for braces! I think a little bit of pain and expense for braces is well worth the beautiful teeth she will have forever! I always wished my parents would have gotten me braces, but the dentist alwasy said my teeth were that bad!
Good that she's getting them now. I had braces ALL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL! Not fun!
It's a good thing she is getting them now... =)
I got them in college and they weren't fun!
Cute! Such a big step! She will have beautiful teeth after. I was just thinking about your blog the other day! Glad I stopped back!
Oh I remember gagging during the molds. If I could offer some advice, wear your retainer. Once my braces came off, I refused to wear the retainer and my teeth are not as straight as they once were.
WOuld you believe that as as teen I always wanted braces b/c they just seemed so cool and you could have the colored rubber bands? Never got em b/c I didn't have an actual need for them, but was jealous of my friends who did.
My son is going to need braces soon. My daughter thought hers were cool.
THe poor baby. I know I hated my braces. But she'll adapt to them. Just stopping by from the Follow Friday. I'm already following you. Glad you joined the hop again this week.

That is such a big step!!!
My boys are gonna need them but we were told to wait another year or so!
Oh my oldest had to have braces, getting those molds was awful.
OMGosh...I remember those days. I only wore mine for a year. She will look so cute in them:)
Oh how I remember the days of braces. I had mine for over 4 years!!
1-2 years isn't too bad. I hope it's shorter than longer.
Poor gal...I had orthodontics for six years, so I feel her pain!!
I hope all goes well. I was lucky enough to not have them so I am hoping my kid won't either, we'll see.
My youngest daughter, Love had braces when she was in her high school years. That was the time few only orthodontist practitioner we had so it was very expensive, but it was not so painful in our pockets because the payments were due every visits to the dentist.lol!
her teeth will look beautiful once she has worn them for the recommended time! I remember going through a phase of wanting braces too!

Valiant needs them, but I'm still struggling with sticker shock here in Eastern Washington. What cost $3000 in Los Angeles is being quoted at more than $5000 here...it is a tough adjustment. Congrats to your beautiful daughter...the time will fly.
Awww..she's so beautiful! She'll do very well, I'm sure. My dd needs braces also, but all the quotes we got were over $5000. We just don't have that kind of money right now. :(
Reid got her braces on right before 9th grade, but so many of her friends have them that it wasn't too big of a deal.
not bad.. mine is worst hahah but im afraid to have braces :(
