The other day, I was cleaning out the jacket closet, and I came across this.
But, this wasn't like any other jacket that didn't fit my kids anymore, it was one that I bought for my oldest son when he was around 2 years old. I was obsessed with the Disney Store!
It probably sounds corny, but I started reminiscing on how little he was and how he used to look when he wore it. It seemed like it was just yesterday, and not 11 1/2 years ago. I literally was tearing up when I was holding it, and all my kids were like, "Are you crying???????" I even made a joke to my son about him putting it on just for fun! LOL. But, it also showed me HOW FAST these (almost) 12 years flew by. He'll be 14 in July, and in just four years, he will officially be an adult (sigh).

Here is he is, wearing the jacket when he was around 2 1/2 years old! And look at Miranda..so little, and now she's all grown up! I will never give this jacket away.
How about you? Is there anything that you have that you hold near and dear to your heart?

I have a handful of baby outfits that I don't think I could ever give away. My oldest was born the end of Sept in CA so for the first few weeks he had summer clothes and then it got cold. So I have these newborn summer outfits that remind me of what it was like to become a mom. They are so special. Then since my 2nd little boy was born in Germany I have a few German outfits that remind me of when he was born. Amazing how clothing can bring back so many memories!
What I know I will never give away are these little tees that my mom saved from when I was a baby and brought over for J & Z, who got to wear them, too! I never knew that my mom saved those. How cool would that be if my grandchildren would be wearing what I wore when I was a baby?! :)
I still have the first "dressy" onies that my oldest wore. She's 19 now and I brought it out at her sweet 16 and graduation. I am going to put it in a memory box one of these days:-)
I have a few baby outfits.I try not to think about Kain getting old too fast:)
So sweet!
I am a pack rat...I have saved all sorts of things from toys to clothes to artwork from both of the boys! That jacket is so cute...I was on a Disney crave for awhile and love that store too! They are so cute that little!!!
I was sorting through baby clothes to give away a few weeks ago, and there were some outfits that I just could not give away! Especially some of the tiny outfits that they wore when they were first born!
Oh goodness. I get that way too. I was cleaning Allie's clothes out not long ago and having a hard time letting stuff go while I was crying. My husband thinks I'm crazy!
I have a whole trunk full of The Midge's baby clothes that I'm afraid to open for fear that it'll open the floodgates as well. Why do they have to grow up so quickly????
This is such a beautiful post. Your kids are beautiful and you are such a good Mommy!
how gorgeous are those two wee toddlers? I love that wee jacket and I do exactly the same thing when clearing out their old clothes, especially toddler and baby ones! I have a tiny hat that Jacob wore as a baby kept in my baby box and a cute sleepsuit he wore!
Love Collette xxx
That's just precious, and I totally understand the tearing up part! I have a couple of "memory boxes" in the attic full of things that belonged to my son, or artwork, etc... And, yes, I do have some pieces of clothing in there that bring back such wonderful memories that I could never part with them...there are some intersting stories in there! :)
Yes, I have several little outfits and shoes from when the kiddos were little that I just can't part with. I have a big box for each that I put things like that in - I think I need bigger boxes! That is precious ~ ♥
I think one of the hardest things to let go is their little clothes. Toys...I don't have such a hard time with, but with clothes you are not alone in the crying department. The years fly by my dear. ((hugs))
Adorable picture!
ohhh that is so cute. I too have a jacket similar but mine was just a teddy bear...My oldest is 14 so (insert whine)...can't they go back in time!
Oh.... When I find things like this I just get so sad. I just redid the boys closet and organized all the clothes that my 7 year old can't wear anymore that will go to my 2 year old. I just kept asking where did the time go....
4 years and he'll be an adult. sigh.... the second blog in a row that deals with our kids growing up. sigh..... Love them each day is what we can do! We have some little Carharts that I have kept. they are so teeny.
what an adorable picture!!
We had friends in twon for new years ... they have a 2 year old. I got down some toys from the attic that we still had from foster parenting the twins. We were unpacking them and I took out their two little motorcycles. I thought we'd sent them home w/ the twins because they were their favorite toy. I guess they got lost in the shuffle. As I sat on the floor remembering how they played with them ALL day I just started bawling... my husband sat down and got a little teary too. I will keep them forever!
I know just how you feel. There is something very sentimental about the clothes our kids wore when they were little. (As mine still are.) It seems like each article of clothing holds a memory. I love that, but it sure makes for some storage issues. :)
Oh, I know Alicia!!!
I have a box of little sweaters that I just can't part with....from when they were 1.
This is the second post I've read about clothes being too small and how fast kids are growing up. Have you seen those blankets/throws that can be made from favorite pieces of clothing? I love that idea. Are you going to post the pic of him wearing the coat now? :)
I have a couple of dresses of my daughter's and a sailor suit of my sons. I am sure they wish I would get rid of them. : )
How sweet! My mom saved a few of our things. It was so fun to put my kids in clothes that I wore as a baby and very sentimental for my mom. So, I agree you should hold onto it.
Sweet, sweet.
I keep way too many things from my kids... I guess one day I may have to decide what I have to keep and what I don't, but since I have move plenty of times and even across countries i say today is not that day :) why do they grow so fast?
I think that the more appropriate question is what don't I hold on to? I love so much of their little clothes- which is one of the bonuses of having another son. I get to see my favorites on a little person time after time.
My twin girls are only 9 months old, but I am for SURE keeping these four specific sleeper outfits in PREEMIE size that my mom brought up to the hospital. The girls came at 36w3d. 4 pounds 10oz and 5 pounds 8oz. I saved the two sleepers that they each wore in the hospital picture, and the other two I put them on their teddy bears from Build-a-Bear. They are the perfect size, and I thought it would be fun for them to have their bear wearing their outfit that they wore when they were born. I hope they get a kick out of that someday when they understand.
I still keep a few outfits the boys wore when they were little. Time and time again, I took them out to be given away but put them right back in the box where they are kept 'cos I just couldn't part with them!
Oh my that is so cute. I love it! I hung onto all the kids dedication outfits.
Awwww, so precious. Time flies doesn't it Alicia?
Since mine is still so young, I'm sure all of her little princess dresses will be precious to me.
I am soooo sentimental that I've held onto a lot of the boys' stuff. My husband thinks I'm a pack-rat. He just doesn't understand. :o)
Mu children's "homecoming" outfits from the hospital...I get all choked up every time I see them!
So sweet, I am even a little choked up. I went though some of the kids' clothes this weekend. I have a very hard time giving things away and I came across this shirt that Mason wore at about a year. It was a regular shirt but he wore for pjs and it just reminded me of him at that age I could not make myself put it in the donation bag.
The same with an outfit Alyssa wore and I have a picture of her sucking her thumb in this outfit. She didn't suck her thumb very long but it was the cutest thing ever. Sorry I just wrote a book :)
yes, yes! i had to revisit our attic, where I have saved every precious item of clothing, and baby blanket that ever had a special meaning. It happened to be 7 very very large army duffle bags of things. I narrowed it down to two very large army duffly bags of blankets, and special clothes. I have 4 kids!! LOL, but as I went down memory lane my children slowly trickled in and reminisced with me! They remembered certain outfitts that didn't have special meaning to me so we kept those outfitts as well. My daughter said, "Keep this one, I want my daughter to wear it one day". I love how certain things can instantly bring you back to that very moment!
Aw! Love the photo of your son in the jacket. This photo of your cuties is precious! (hey, I have a wooden reindeer like yours too...from 1989 or1990!) I hafta admit...I have quite a number of our children's cute little clothes!
Goodness! I even have a sweater that belonged to my brother when he was an infant (now in his 30's, grown, married and with kids of his own!), that I had asked my mom for when our 19 year old son was born.
Blessings & Aloha!
aww they look so cute...♥
I have a special box for each of my babies with some of their clothing and special things...♥iLuv to treasure things like that..♥
OH MY STARS, ALICIA! I bought a jacket very similar to that at the Disney Store, which was my favorite store, back in 1996 for my second born, Brianna. Who happens to be 14 now. Her sister, number 7, who is 2, now wears it. I am extremely sentimental about that jacket, myself. Plus, whenever I see it... I say, "Do you know what a splurge that was for us to buy? Back then we had nothing but cereal to eat because we were so poor and I paid full price for that!" Ha... how the time flies... now I have to stop reading your posts and write my own post or there will be no Friday Flash back for Art's Chili Pepper tomorrow.
Good night!
Kat
