FLASHBACK FRIDAY-THANKSGIVING MEMORIES

One of my favorite Thanksgiving memories happened around eight/nine years ago. Our plans had literally changed a couple of days before Thanksgiving, leaving us with nothing to do (I know, how sad)! I don't recall why they changed, but I do remember my mom asking me what we (me, hubby, & kids) were going to do instead. She was encouraging me to just make my own dinner at home. I have never cooked a turkey before so I was hesitant to go that route. She proceeded to tell me how to do it, and said that all we needed were the "basics" for dinner. So the night before Thanksgiving, I was on a mission! I went to the grocery store and bought everything I needed for the next day. I got my turkey, sweet potatoes, pie, appetizers, the works, and just for our family of 3 at the time (plus my mom). I was so excited to make the turkey that I almost forgot to take the "bag" out of it! I remember being really grossed out having to do that! I had to totally psych myself out before sticking my hand in there! But, everything turned out great, the turkey was tender, we had plenty of food, and I just felt like I accomplished something huge at such short notice! You would never have known that there was no time for planning! I think those spontaneous moments are sometimes the best!!!!!

You did, because I have never even made a Turkey. I would be afraid to grab it too. Yuck.

I would have felt the same way. I have never cooked a turkey (my MIL is the best and always does it for me) before and would have been scared to death that I would have messed it up. What an accomplishment! I'm jealous!! :) Ang

That's awesome!

Do you do it at your house every year now? or luck out and not have to cook? We get lucky still..we go to my parents house and it is yummy...although my mom has a one track mind and once the doorbell rings my dad and i lose her so it ends up being just he and i in the kitchen :) that's the joy of the holidays,right..i wouldn't change it for anything!

Well the first time I cooked a turkey I left the bag in. No one told me I needed to take it out...lol!!!

At least you knew to take it out!

Have a great day :)

I know exactly what you mean about taking out the bag. When I cooked my first turkey I was totally grossed out - I wore latex gloves, no kidding!

Happy Friday!

I agree. Sometimes spontaneous moments are the best! I am proud of you. I have never cooked a turkey. Remember hubby is the cook in our house! I make the sweet potato casserole and that is about it!

There's nothing like cooking a great meal for your family!

Aww, that's a great memory! I have cooked a turkey a few times, and I still absolutely hate getting the bag out! So gross!! I know people use the stuff in the bag to make gravy.. no thanks! I couldn't do it!!!
