HOMESCHOOL UPDATE

Since I did originally start this as a "homeschooling" blog, I feel the need to give an update on how our school year is going thus far! The kids are doing awesome, and are learning so much! I'm so proud of them and I encourage them to always give it their best. I want to keep them interested in learning. Not just with textbook work, but with everyday life!

This year, I changed our entire curriculum and joined a charter school. It was hard for me to admit that it has been a struggle the last couple of years. I felt like I was getting deeper and deeper in a hole. Granted, my kids were still doing schoolwork, but I felt like they were still lacking in certain areas. Overall, I feel it was my lack of organization that made me feel this way. I know I needed something to keep me "accountable" and also for the kids to feel like they were getting the best education! I felt convicted that if something were to happen and we had to enroll them in public school, I wanted the assurance that they would be at their grade level, if not above. God totally heard, and answered my prayers!

The curriculum we are using now is secular, but it is similar to what we were using previously (minus the Christian references). One of the many things I love about this program is that the kids individual lesson plans for the year are already laid out for them online, and that takes away about 99% of paperwork for me! I still have the control to decide when we take vacation days, and I can also adjust their schedules for them to finish a subject(s) before the school year ends. The older kids are also able to log in to their own personal page to see what is required of them each day, which in turn motivates them to work independently. The kids are really thriving, and I know they feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day (as well as myself)!! I just KNOW that this was an answer to my prayer. The Lord knew how much I was struggling in this area, and He knew that I needed something like this to get us back on track!

Isn't God good? He knows exactly what we need and then takes care of us. Have a wonderful Monday!

I am so glad you found something to work for you guys. Choosing curriculum can sometimes be the most frustrating part about homeschooling.

I am in awe of people who homeschool. I fear my patience is too thin for such a venture. Good for you:-)
